Best Practice Community Engagement in Wind Developments

Donna Luckman • 13 May 2020

This Best Practice Community Engagement in Wind Development guide, developed by Taryn Lane and Jarra Hicks,  outlines the outcomes of good community engagement and the fundamental principles that underpin such an approach. It presents practical tools for the assessment and implementation of community engagement practices, drawing on best practice examples from Australian and overseas wind farms.

This guide is based around three different approaches to community engagement with wind development. Each of these emphasise a different type of relationship between developers and communities: development to - inform/consult: development with - involve/collaborate; and development for and by - empower. Within each, a range of development processes, tools and benefit sharing arrangements that can be used throughput the wind farm development process are outlined. This guide closes with a resource list for further reference.
