Heather Smith • 27 May 2021

Presentation Thursday 6th May

  • Heather Smith: Introduction to community energy projects & models from around Australia (see also this post and webinar)
  • Matt Charles-Jones: Totally Renewable Yackandandah's journey so far (TRY website)
  • Heather Smith: Making it local, how solar works, how we use energy, when we use energy and the mismatch with when we generate energy.

Workshop Saturday 8th May

  • Thinking about what we want for Venus Bay
  • Summary of Thursday's presentations
  • How, when and where we use energy
  • Thinking about scale - from Bald Hills Wind Farm down to the Venus Bay Community Centre (this will be my next blog post)
  • ...all followed by a long discussion which allowed everyone to start exploring what they might like to see.

The first exercise involved everyone contributing their hopes for Venus Bay. Using the benefits of community energy visual developed by Jarra Hicks and Nicky Ison, we can map the community's responses to the provocation - why are you interested in community energy?

Ideas of what community energy could achieve in Venus Bay

We were lucky enough to have participants from Ausnet Services, Totally Renewable Philip Island and Sandy Point community energy come to join us and share their experiences too.

Both sets of slides are attached to this post and although we didn't get footage of the event, it has certainly kick started the discussion so thanks everyone who came along.
